The Department of Radiology at University of California, San Diego (UC San Diego) is offering a 1-year fellowship in cardiothoracic radiology. This position entails exposure to a wide array of imaging studies generated by three hospitals: UC San Diego Medical Center- Hillcrest (a designated Level 1 trauma center), UC San Diego Medical Center- Thornton Hospital + Sulpizio Cardiovascular Center, and VA San Diego Health Care System; and offers comprehensive training in cardiothoracic imaging.
UC San Diego boasts very active cardiac and pulmonary transplant services, as well as the busiest center for chronic pulmonary thromboendarterectomy surgery in the world. State-of-the-art equipment is available, including PACS, digital and computed radiography, 6 multi-slice CT scanners including a 320 slice scanner, PET-CT imaging, and state-of-the-art MR scanners including multiple 3T units. In conjunction with the UC San Diego Center for Functional MRI, access to 3T and 7T magnets is available
The faculty consists of 5 dedicated cardiothoracic radiologists with interests in all aspects of thoracic imaging and cardiac imaging in close collaboration with cardiology colleagues. With dedicated academic time, fellows will be encouraged to participate in ongoing research including interdisciplinary research in cardiac CT and MR and functional pulmonary imaging. A large and varied patient population assures a wealth of clinical experience and exposure to a full spectrum of clinical pathology. Daily interaction with the pulmonary, oncology, infectious disease, cardiology, and cardiothoracic surgery services is an important source of training. Additionally, fellows will have opportunities to participate in dedicated cardiothoracic radiology and interdisciplinary conferences.
Potential candidates must be Board-eligible by the American Board of Radiology and must have a valid California Medical License.
